Although we were battered with gale force winds and occasional heavy showers, the sun did come out a lot of the time and the Norfolk Break was most enjoyable and successful. The Pheasant Hotel at Kelling looked after us very well and made the eighteen of us most welcome.
The courses were in excellent condition, though our first day at Hunstanton saw no rain, the wind was unbelievably strong, turning over our trolleys and making replacing the ball in front of markers on the green and keeping it on the tee a feat in itself. The format of the best three of four scores was won by Pat Edworthy, Peter Archer, Philip Larking and myself.
The second day at Cromer although still windy was calmer than the previous day with warm sunshine and, the odd shower. The Waltz format was won by Jacky Waghorn, Gillian Gardner Smith, Clive Rowe and Peter Archer.
The last day at Sheringham started out very calm, warm and sunny though the wind did get up. The first nine beautiful views of the sea, gorse, course and the steam train chugging backwards and forwards made up for the later heavy showers and the last a very torrential downpour with a bit of thunder. Full marks to everyone for being brave enough to complete the round and with excellent scores. The format of a 4BBB was won by Philip Larking and Gillian Gardner Smith.
The overall winner were Ladies, as always, Pat Edworthy and this year Peter Archer. We were delighted that Anne and Peter Archers new to our fold could join us, though poor Anne was unable to play, due to a recent operation on her hand due to a fall. However, she walked round everyday, caddying, counting scores and searching for balls. Thank you Anne.
The June event at Woodbridge has been changed yet again (you just can't get the staff) from 21 June to 22 June, 10 a.m. tee off, so please check your diaries. Please let me know if you are joining us, if you haven't already done so, with buggy and dietary requirements. Woodbridge tel. number 01394 382038.
Sadly I still haven't got details of the October break, based in Sesimbra which is between Lisbon and Setubal from 8 to 18 October but hopefully I will have by the next newsletter.
