Didn't we have a lovely day the day we went to Gorleston! The sun shone, the sea sparkled and although we had a very strong wind, it was a warm wind, and at least we did enjoy it when it was behind us. The course was in excellent condition and the scores excellent, especially as everyone was off three quarters handicap as in accordance with the rules.
Fourteen of us contested in a 4BBB with the winners Ann Amos and Clive scoring 39 points. In second place Pat Edworthy and Mike Amos with 36 points and third Philip Larking and myself with 35 points. Due to the very strong head wind no one managed to reach the par three fourth hole for nearest the pin, and also no one managed to stay on the ninth green for nearest the pin in two.
In the event prizes went to Anne Amos for a birdie on the fifth hole, Pat Edworthy for a birdie on the sixteenth hole and Godfrey Camilleri for a birdie on the 17th hole. We were happy to welcome Rosemary Hodgkin and Mike Amos from the home club and also Johnny Johnson, who unfit to play at the present time was the professional at Gorleston on his first appointment in 1956. (where we first met and I started to play golf!) We had a lot of fun and an enjoyable meal to end the day.
The next event is at Southwold on 11 September with a 1p.m. tee off. Please let me know if you can join us if you have not already done so, with dietary requirements. I am afraid there are no buggies, but it is a flat course. Our last event will be on October 23 at Bungay Suffolk 12 noon tee off Phone no. 01502723234
There are still places for the wine and golf break in Portugal from 8 to 18 October and if you would like to know more please get in touch with me. Also the Fiesta details are out ! Again let me know if you need more info
